New monthly fish sales dataset

New monthly fish sales data has been released on EMODnet Human Activities. The GIS dataset originates from the data on monthly first sales of fish made available by the European Market for Fisheries and Aquaculture products (EUMOFA).

The monthly fish sales data has been matched to fish ports (made available in DG MARE’s Master Data Register). Fish species have then been grouped into EUMOFA’s aggregations such as Commodity Groups (CG) and Main Commercial Species (MCS). For each fish species, the following values are provided on a monthly basis by year of reference, CG, MCS and country:

  • Place of sale
  • Volume (net weight in kg)
  • Value (Euro)
  • Price (Euro/kg)

It currently covers a time period from 2007 to 2016 and covers Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden. In the near future, it is planned that the data will be updated monthly as soon as new data from EUMOFA is released.

The monthly fish sales data is free to view and interrogate on the EMODnet Human Activities map portal. The raw GIS dataset has also been made available to download for free.
