Treatment Plants
This facility provides free access to GIS data on European treatment plants. View the treatment plants data on an interactive map of Europe and search treatment plants sites and locations. Alternatively, download Esri compatible GIS files (Geodatabase or Shapefile). Datasets are also available via OGC compliant web feature service (WFS) or web map services (WMS). The metadata featured here can be downloaded as XML.

The database on coastal Urban Waste Water Treatment Plant (UWWTP) was created in 2019 by AZTI for the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet). It is based on the dataset "Waterbase-UWWTD" (Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive-reported data) provided by the European Topic Centre on Inland, Coastal and Marine waters, and made available at https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/waterbase-uwwtd-urban-waste-water-treatment-directive-7. Based on data selected from the reporting of Member States as part of the UWWTPD implementation, the dataset presents the available information (location, capacity and actual load treated, type of treatment, aggregated data on the performance of plants) on individual UWWTP, and collecting systems without UWWTP, located in coastal NUTS3 regions bordering transitional, coastal and madine waters. It is available for viewing and download on EMODnet - Human Activities web portal (www.emodnet-humanactivities.eu). The geographic coverage is: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. The description of all attribute fields of UWWTP is given in the Waterbase-UWWTD (https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/waterbase-uwwtd-urban-waste-water-treatment-directive-7/waterbase-uwwtd). Compared with the previous version, this new version has been updated for all countries by extending the temporal coveragae from 2013-2014 to the 2011-2018 time period (where available).

The dataset is originally provided as a GIS shapefile (UWWTD GIS shapefile: UWWTP.shp). We have considered all UWWTP that are located in coastal NUTS 3 regions, those that limit with transitional and/or coastal water bodies (as defined in the Water Framework Directive). Validation and quality assurance remain up to primary data sources.

- Description EMODnet Human Activities aims to facilitate access to existing marine data on activities carried out in EU waters, by building a single entry point for geographic information on human uses of the ocean. The portal makes available information such as geographical position, spatial extent of a series of activities related to the sea, their temporal variation, time when data was provided, and attributes to indicate the intensity of each activity. The data are aggregated and presented so as to preserve personal privacy and commercially-sensitive information. The data also include a time interval so that historic as well as current activities can be included.
